We started Hi Zazoo because our students kept telling us the same thing: they knew the grammar, but they didn't feel ready to actually speak.
Our story
Hi Zazoo is based in Marin County, California, and was founded by a small group of language teachers who spent years in the classroom watching a familiar pattern play out. Students could conjugate verbs perfectly on a worksheet, yet freeze up the moment they had to hold a real conversation.
What our students needed wasn't more grammar drills — it was live, personalized practice: a patient partner to talk to whenever they had a few spare minutes, who would correct them gently, meet them at their actual level, and help them build the confidence to speak.
As teachers, we couldn't be there for every student around the clock. So we built the next best thing: an AI tutor designed with a teacher's instincts, available any time of day, that adapts to each learner instead of pushing them through a generic script.
